Welcome Brooke

We are pleased to announce that Brooke McNalley has joined our team as a Swim and Lifesaving Instructor. She will be delivering swimming lessons with us in remote northern communities this summer.

About Brooke

She grew up outside a small village in Alberta called Chauvin but moved in 2022 to Edmonton to pursue a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology and a minor in Kinesiology. She is going to be doing another degree in Secondary Education in Math and Science with the end goal of being a Junior High STEMs Teacher. She grew up on a grain/feedlot farm and now owns 8 commercial cattle; Betsy, Spice, Ernie, Bonnie, Honey, Kiters, Oreo and Ivan, 3 goats, a horse named Zeus and my family owns a dog named Taz and a red angus bull named Angus. When she was 12 she was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes and has never let it stop her from achieving her dreams. She has been in the pool since she was 3 months old and has never stopped swimming. Over the years she has competed Provincially in competitive and Artistic (Synchronized) Swimming and did one competition in the National Western Provinces within Artistic Swimming. When she was 14 she got her Lifeguard and Instructor Certification and has been teaching and guarding since. She has experience teaching and lifeguarding in indoor, outdoor and lakes.

Why she took the position:

I took the position that I hold now because I am extremely passionate about swimming. Swimming to me takes the world away and turns it into a better life for me. It is also a very good exercise activity and it is so much fun. I also love to travel, so traveling to remote locations of Canada will help me to see remote areas of Canada that I would have not been able to go to before. I also took this position due to loving teaching and knowing how to swim is the most fundamental thing as lots of people have a pool in their area or a lake and drowning is very frequent and heartbreaking for small communities.

What I am most excited about:

What I am most excited about are the people I get to meet and the places I get to travel to. I am also excited about learning about the different communities I will be going into and learning about their cultures to further my knowledge of people and their traditions.
